The unique conference is targeted at both communication professionals and journalists, as well as both researchers and practitioners. The event is expected to have around 200 expert participants interested in ethics.

“Choice of theme – ethics – is natural for the field of communications and for ProCom. ProCom has translated and created guidelines for communication ethics in Finland since the 1960s. Together with other Finnish communication associations, ProCom founded The Council of Ethics for Communication (VEN) in 2015. In December 2017, Procom was awarded the Anders Chydenius medal for furthering transparent lobbying,” says Elina Melgin, the CEO of ProCom and the Chair of The Program Committee of HelsinkiEthics2020.

The conference reflects ProCom’s strategy, which emphasizes strengths that the association and Finland have in promoting and advancing ethical communication, freedom of speech and democracy.

Collaborative partners and supporters of HelsinkiEthics2020 include already Unesco, City of Helsinki, Helsingin Sanomat Foundation. Other partners will be announced later.

President of the Republic of Finland, Sauli Niinistö, is the patron of the conference.
